China Wuhan Steel (Wuchangdong) - Uzbekistan Central Asia train successfully launched

2024-11-26

On November 25, 2024, with a loud whistle, a train loaded with 50 sets of coil steel containers left the Wuhan Steel Logistics Industrial Port Area, marking the successful inaugural run of the Wuhan Wugang (Wuchang East) - Central Asia train from China. The inaugural container train consisted of 50 wagons and departed from Wuchang East Station (Wugang), where it was cleared at Wujiashan Customs before heading out of the country via the Horgos Port of Entry. It traveled through Kazakhstan and eventually reached various locations in Uzbekistan. The train's total journey was approximately 6,000 kilometers, and the estimated total travel time was about 20 days, with a total weight of about 2,700 tons of goods. In recent years, the export of steel products by Baowu Group has continued to grow, leading to increasing demand for international logistics transportation. Transporting goods from the source directly to the destination overseas will reduce the transportation time and costs between Wuhan and Central Asia, and the "one-box-to-the-end" service will greatly ensure the quality of product delivery.

The Qingshan base has sufficient capacity, and the opening of the Central Asia train will provide solid logistics support for the export of steel products from the base, enabling Baowu Group to deeply integrate into the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. At the same time, it will further improve the Wuhan-Central Asia freight train transport system, better promote economic and trade exchanges between Wuhan and the countries of Central Asia, and provide new options for more "Wuhan-made" products to go abroad.

Statistics from the railway department show that Wuhan opened the Central Asia train from zero, gradually climbed to double digits, indicating that the growth of market demand in Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and other countries has provided a new source of power for Hubei railway foreign trade.
